In the age of today, obesity struck many kids and teenagers alike. Due to the fact that there is no constant activity done by kids and teenagers, with this present situation, one should ask Why is physical fitness important for teens.
Research studies reveal that a majority of school children in the United States do not get enough physical activities or exercise to develop healthier lungs and hearts. It was observed that a number of students could only get as little as an hour of physical education in a given week and it is not guaranteed that the time spent entails physical activities since part of the time would be spent for lectures. In an examination called the Presidents Fitness Test, it is quite alarming to discover that only two percent of the students who took it passed. Why is physical fitness important for teens then? Statements above have perhaps answered this question already, but to top it off, part of the research studies have claimed that thirty-three percent and fifty percent of boys and girls respectively from six to twelve age bracket cannot achieve a mile distance of running in a span of ten minutes. Aside from this, forty percent of the kids have shown signs of at least one risk factor for heart disease.
To be able to answer the question Why is physical fitness important for teens, we need to start by redefining the word fitness. In general, fitness is defined as the peak functioning or performance of muscles, lungs, and the heart of a person. With the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Sport Medicine and School Health, physical fitness is determined through the persons flexibility, muscle strength, cardio respiratory endurance, and body composition or the degree of fatness. In order to achieve physical fitness then, we need to develop these four fitness components. Since fitness is not focused on merely muscle strength or endurance, the best exercise to do then is an Aerobic exercise since it addresses all the major components. Several daily activities or sports are considered aerobic as long as it is done for twenty to twenty-five minutes without stopping. Examples include bicycling, dancing, walking, swimming, aerobic classes, jumping rope, roller skating, soccer, and many more. These are some of the best activities one can do since it increases the heart rate and makes one breath harder due to the continuous nature of the physical activity.
Why is physical fitness important for teens? It is important since fitness is not just a fad, achieving it eventually becomes a way of life and we want the new generation to become aware of it as early as possible. The benefits that they can derive from it should not be underestimated and in the process, we can be assured that the next generation of leaders and workers would be more healthy and productive.
